The word doula comes from Greek and means “a woman who serves.”  Modern doulas serve women and their families throughout pregnancy, labor and childbirth, and postpartum.

{During pregnancy}

As your doula I will provide evidence-based information so that you can make the best decisions for you and your family. Some things I provide information for include, but are not limited to:

  • what you can expect during pregnancy
  • healthy nutrition
  • how your baby grows and is positioned
  • choices for labor and childbirth
  • ways to prepare for labor and childbirth
  • ways to prepare for the postpartum time
  • pregnancy and labor facts vs. fiction

{During Labor and Childbirth}

When you go into labor, I will join you at your home or the hospital, wherever you prefer. Some things I will do for you during labor include, but are not limited to:

  • Emotional support: Doulas provide encouragement and help their clients remember the goals they have for labor and childbirth. I do not speak for you, but I will help you use your own voices confidently to vocalize your preferences and needs. When a woman gets to a certain point in her laboring, she will often say, “I can’t do this,” and I will quietly remind her, “Not only can you do this, you ARE doing this!” If you have identified any mantras that help you focus, I will quietly repeat these to you as you deal with contractions. For women who find silence the best way to focus on contractions, I’ll do my best to facilitate such an environment.
  • Physical support: The physical support I provide varies depending on what each individual client wants. It can include, but is not limited to: gentle massage, cool cloths, warm compresses, gentle pressure on specific points that can relieve discomfort during contractions, breathing techniques, visualizations, helping with relaxation, suggestions on positions, and assistance with bonding and establishing breastfeeding.
  • Practical support: throughout your pregnancy and the postpartum time, I will be available for questions and I will provide resources and information on various topics as requested.

~ As your doula, I’m honored to serve you and assist you during this transformative time for your family. ~
